School received awards for taking care of these children through Rotary Club Aurangabad. Students participate in cultural and sports competitions every year and they achieve prizes of shield, cups and certificates. They also get the chance to exhibit their talents in art through Abilembic Program conducted by the organization of Junardh.
Mental Retardation is a condition where the person has arrested or incomplete development of mind specially characterized by sub-normality of intelligence. In simple words it is a delay or slowness in the mental development of a child. It is a condition and not a disease. A child with this condition has less mental ability or intelligence than others of his age. Those children have difficulty in learning, understanding, communicating with others and in adjusting their behavior to the various situations in everyday life.
Since mental retardation is a condition and not a disease there is no cure for this condition but proper training is required to lead a fuller life, with early diagnosis, parental assistance and early educational program through which majority of them can adjust socially, academically and become a self-supporting citizens .
They can be taught to live and work independently.
Mental retardation refers to significantly sub average general, Intellectuals resulting in or associated with concurrent impairments in adaptive behavior or manifested developmental period.
There are different methods of classification of mental retardation. They are psychological and educational.
Medical classification if based on the cause, psychological classification on the level of intelligence the educational classification on the current level functioning. Educational classification includes term such as slow learners, educable, trainable and custodial.
The psychological classification is based on the IQ level.
