Achievement and Awards


School received awards for taking care of these children through Rotary Club Aurangabad. Students participate in cultural and sports competitions every year and they achieve prizes of shield, cups and certificates. They also get the chance to exhibit their talents in art through Abilembic Program conducted by the organization of Junardh.



Future Plans

  • 1: To do the extension work of the two more wings of the school building.
  • 2: We intend to safeguard the school property with necessary compound walls or wire fencing.
  • 3: We also plan to make a Basket ball court and a badminton court for improving their games skills.
  • 4: We also have to start the sheltered workshop with all the facilities for the vocational students.



Aims & Objectives

  • 1: Taking effort to empower the mentally retarded children to live with dignity in the society.
  • 2: Inviting the parents of mentally retarded children to share their problems and have awareness classes.
  • 3: Imparting vocational training to the adults and giving opportunity to work in sheltered workshop by which they can get a job outside.


About Mental Retardation


Mental Retardation is a condition where the person has arrested or incomplete development of mind specially characterized by sub-normality of intelligence. In simple words it is a delay or slowness in the mental development of a child. It is a condition and not a disease. A child with this condition has less mental ability or intelligence than others of his age. Those children have difficulty in learning, understanding, communicating with others and in adjusting their behavior to the various situations in everyday life.
Since mental retardation is a condition and not a disease there is no cure for this condition but proper training is required to lead a fuller life, with early diagnosis, parental assistance and early educational program through which majority of them can adjust socially, academically and become a self-supporting citizens .
They can be taught to live and work independently.


Defination


Mental retardation refers to significantly sub average general, Intellectuals resulting in or associated with concurrent impairments in adaptive behavior or manifested developmental period.


Classification


There are different methods of classification of mental retardation. They are psychological and educational.

Medical classification if based on the cause, psychological classification on the level of intelligence the educational classification on the current level functioning. Educational classification includes term such as slow learners, educable, trainable and custodial.

The psychological classification is based on the IQ level.

35 to 49 moderate
20 to 34 severe
Below 20 moderate


Causes of Mental Retardation


Mental Retardation causes by number of factors. They can be grouped into four stages

  • Pre-conceptional period
  • Pre-natal Period
  • Peri-natal Period
  • Post natal



Biological, environmental, psychological factors are the cause for Mental Retardation in above stages.
