Message from Chief Trustee

Assisi Asha Niketan Special School of the Mentally Challenged is managed and run by Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate, a Religious Organization of Catholic Nuns who have drawn inspiration from our Founder Msgr. Joseph Kandathil. Like him we believe in the words of Jesus. “Whatsoever you did to the least of my brothers and sisters you did to me”. It comes under Assisi Asha Deep Education Society Amravati. The School was established in 2001.
The aim of our Organization is to care for the socially rejected people like the sick and afflicted, the lepers, the mentally and physically challenged, the deaf and dumb etc. and give them life and dignity in the society.

As per the invitation of the Late Bishop Sylvester Monterio of Aurangabad diocese, the Assisi Sisters came to Aurangabad to establish a centre for the Mentally Challenged Children. Within 15 days sisters found about 50 mentally challenged children below the age of 15. There was no such special school there to train them in this area. A plot of land of 3 acres was handed over to us for making a school building. In this land we have constructed a school building. Started with 10 students, now there are about 100.

We accept them as day scholars and train them according to their abilities within their limits, in order that they may be self-reliant. As they get ample time with their parents and siblings at home they too help in their formation as we conduct training programs for the parents. They are given regular information through the seminar and study classes to accept their children as a gift of God and thus a blessing to the family and society. Thus empowering them in as much as they can, they can hope for a bright future. What they need is not sympathy but our encouragement, affirming them that they too are important in the society. Each individual is unique. Their talents and intelligence varies. If channelized properly and given guidance and support, they can bloom as charming personalities.
“They are not disabled, they are differently able”
